The Seventh Khan Sombilek Fights Bakdowlet
After the death of Bekbaqa, the country of the Kyrgyz people sank into turmoil once again. Kyrgyz people once again suffered the incursion of other tribes which were aggressive by nature. Akymangedai, wife of Bekbaqa, died unfortunately after giving birth to the posthumous son of the khan. The boy was named Sombilek and later adopted by his uncle secretly. After knowing the history of his family, the teen led Kyrgyz people to drive off the invaders. He got the widespread support from the masses and mounted the throne later on. In the following years, he repulsed a series of attacks launched by aggressors. Like his ancestors, the seventh khan of Family Manas carved out his own reputation as a dauntless and tireless warrior in the face of relentless hostility from aggressor troops.
On one day, Sombilek bumped into an old man with white hair and beard on the way.
The old man asked the young khan where the hometown of Manas was located.
The young khan showed the direction for the old passer-by in a good demeanor.
Through the further conversation, the young khan learned that the name of the old man was Abukei and he was a Turkmanian envoy sent by his monarch –

Kamana Khan.
“It is a hair-raising odyssey,” the old man recalled. His khan had a gorgeous
daughter called Tenimhan. In order to marry the princess, a tribal chieftain
named Kolomzhu besieged the imperial palace of Kamana Khan. The
chieftain came from the area of Khurasan. In an attempt to persuade him to
withdraw his troops, Kamana Khan presented the chieftain a lot of treasures
and livestock. However, the chieftain poured scorn on the bribes. Instead, the
khan presented the chiefain a beauty every day. But he was still unsatisfied.
The chieftain claimed that the gorgeous princess already took the fancy of
him and he must marry her. Otherwise, he would fulfill his goal by force.
However, Tenimhan wept in horror all day long in the palace, saying that she
would commit suicide if the chieftain took her for marriage by force. After
consulting with all the sages in the country, Kamana Khan decided to send the
old man to Talas for assistance.
Having known that the youngster in front of him was the khan of all
Kyrgyz people, the old envoy almost did not believe his eyes because Sombilek
appeared not only thin but also weak.
Sombilek also heard of the anecdotes related to the gorgeous princess.
Meanwhile, the delicacy of her features also struck the Kyrgyz khan favourably.
Having heard that his beloved princess was in the face of predicament,
Sombilek was about to help rescue her from the siege right away.
He rode his horse and headed to the imperial palace of Kamana Khan
together with Abukei.
In the middle of the way to the palace, they bumped into an Afghan khan
called Bakdowlet. The Afghan khan in his early 30s was notorious for his
atrocities. Having heard of the terrible incident, he also headed to the imperial
palace of Kamana Khan in an attempt to capture the beauty for marriage by
force.
Bakdowlet stopped the young Kyrgyz khan and the old envoy, saying to
Sombilek with a defiant gesture: “I dream of marrying the beautiful princess.
In addition, I resolve to capture Talas, kill all the local pregnant women and
rape all the maidens. Who are you? And what is going on in Talas?”
What the Afghan khan said got the Kyrgyz khan to fly into a fury all at
once. He swore to kill the scoundrel. As a result, he snarled at the rival:
“Manas is my ancestor.
Legend of Manas
My name is Sombilek.
This old companion is called Abukei.
He comes to ask for my help simply because
Kolomzhu is meant to take Tenimhan for marriage by force.
His troops have besieged the palace of Kamana Khan.
The soul of Manas is supposed to bless me.
I am bound to defeat any enemy.”
After learning that the young man in front of him was the descendant of Manas, Bakdowlet was taken aback. He thrust his spear at Sombilek first. However, the young Kyrgyz khan held the shaft of his spear and broke it immediately. Before the Afghan khan could flee away, he was dragged off the horseback by Sombilek. Finally, the Sombilek impaled the Afghan khan on his pointed spearhead.
Having seen their khan was killed so easily, the followers of Bakdowlet knelt down before the Kyrgyz khan and asked for mercy. The lenient Kyrgyz khan allowed them to go back home at last.
Then they went on to head for the palace of Kamana. Sombilek defeated the enemies coming from Khurasan and forced them to raise the siege. At the same time, the young Kyrgyz khan won the love from Princess Tenimhan. They tied the knot later on.
After going back to Talas, the newlyweds went to the mausoleum of Manas in memory of the great monarch. All of a sudden, they heard a loud bang sending out of the tomb. Meanwhile, a flame came out in the sky and a flash flood deluged the ground. What impressed people most was that a tree with green and dense foliage turned into a leafless dead trunk. It was an ominous sign showing that the young khan will be in jeopardy.
