故人江海别，几度隔山川。
乍见翻疑梦，相悲各问年。
孤灯寒照雨，深竹暗浮烟。
更有明朝恨，离杯惜共传。

the Night Before We Part

A few times we were parted by river and sea；
Between us high mountains and wide streams there would be.
Now we meet again， wondering if it is a dream.
Sadly we ask each other’s age， so old we seem.
In the cold， a lonely lamp shines on rains outside；
Amid the dense bamboos， drifting mists come and slide.
As we are to part again in grief to-morrow，
Let’s hold dear each cup we pass and drink down sorrow.
