Returning to the South Mountain at the Year’s End
Returning to the South Mountain at the Year’s End
Meng Haoran
As no more memorial to the throne I’ll submit,
I come back to the South Mount hut I inhabit.
His Majesty discards me for I’m talentless;
My friends leave me alone, as I suffer from illness.
My grey hair urges me to get older day by day;
The coming new spring will drive the old year away.
Ever-trying worries bring me a sleepless night;
The moon o’er pines sheds through the window its pale light.
