一切都顺利，王子已骑着金马，带走了美丽的公主。狐狸呢，也没拉下，它对年轻人说：“现在我还要帮助你得到金鸟。你走近关着金鸟的宫殿，就让公主下马来，我愿替你保护她。然后，你骑着马走进宫里的院子，人们一见必定非常高兴，便把金鸟拎出来给你。你抓到笼子立刻飞驰来我们这儿，接走你这位少女。”狐狸的计谋成功了，王子带着他的宝贝，准备骑着金马回家去，这时狐狸说：“我帮助了你，现在你该报答我啦。”“你想要什么呢？”王子问。“等我们进了那边的森林，你就开枪打死我，砍掉我的脑袋和脚爪！”“这叫什么报答！”王子说，“我不可能干这个。”狐狸说：“你不肯干我就必须离开你，不过在走之前我再给你一个忠告。有两件事你不能做：一不能买绞架上的肉，二不能坐在井边！”说完，狐狸便跑进了森林。
The youth thought， “That is a wonderful beast， he has strange whimswhim n.一时的兴致， 幻想， 反复无常， 怪念头， 奇想， who on earth would want to buy gallowsflesh. As for the desire to sit at the edge of a well it has never yet occurred to me.” He rode on with the beautiful maiden， and his road took him again through the village in which his two brothers had remained. There was a great stirstir n.轰动， 搅动， 监牢 and noise， and， when he asked what was going on， he was told that two men were going to be hanged. As he came nearer to the place he saw that they were his brothers， who had been playing all kinds of wicked pranks， and had squanderedsquander v.浪费 all their wealth. He inquired whether they could not be set free. “If you will pay for them，” answered the people， “but why should you waste your money on wicked men， and buy them free.” He did not think twice about it， but paid for them， and when they were set free they all went on their way together.
小王子想：“这真是只奇怪的畜牲，满脑袋滑稽念头！谁会去买绞架上的肉呢？我还一辈子没产生过去井边上坐坐的兴趣哩。”他带着美丽的公主继续往前走，又来到了两个哥哥逗留在那儿的那座村子。这时村里正聚集着许多人，一片闹闹嚷嚷，他问出了什么事，回答是有两个家伙要被绞死。他走近一看，那两个人正是他的哥哥。他俩花天酒地，把自己的钱财花了个精光。他问可不可以释放他们。“要是您肯替他们还债，”人家回答，“可是，您干吗为这两个坏蛋耗费金钱，替他们赎身呢？”小王子却不加考虑地付了他们的债，等他们得到释放，就一块儿回家去。
They came to the wood where the fox had first met them， and as it was a hot day， but cool and pleasant within the wood， the two brothers said， “Let us rest a little by the well， and eat and drink.” He agreed， and whilst they were talking he forgot himself， and sat down upon the edge of the well without thinking of any evilevil n.邪恶， 不幸， 罪恶. But the two brothers threw him backwards into the well， took the maiden， the horse， and the bird， and went home to their father. “Here we bring you not only the golden bird，”said they， “we have won the golden horse also， and the maiden from the golden castle.” Then was there great joy， but the horse would not eat， the bird would not sing， and the maiden sat and wept.
一行人走进他们当初碰见狐狸的那片森林。林中又荫凉又安逸，林外却烈日炎炎，两个哥哥于是说：“咱们坐在这井边休息休息，喝口水，吃点东西吧。”小王子同意了，说话间不知不觉地坐在了井沿上，压根儿没想到有什么危险。哪晓得两个哥哥却从背后一推，把他推进井中，夺走公主、金马和金鸟，回父亲那儿去了。“瞧，我们不只捉来了金鸟，”他们说，“我们还搞到了金鸟和金宫的公主呢！”父子三个非常高兴。可是，那马却不吃草料，那鸟也不开口鸣啭，那公主只是坐着哭啊，哭啊。
But the youngest brother was not dead. By good fortune the well was dry， and he fell upon soft moss without being hurt， but he could not get out again. Even in this strait the faithful fox did not leave him， it came and leapt down to him， and upbraidedupbraid v.责备 him for having forgotten its advice. “But yet I cannot give up.” he said， “I will help you up again into daylight.” He bade him graspgrasp vt.抓住， 抓紧， 掌握， 领会 his tail and keep tight hold of it， and then he pulled him up. “You are not out of all danger yet，”said the fox. “Your brothers were not sure of your death， and have surrounded the wood with watchers， who are to kill you if you let yourself be seen.” But a poor man was sitting upon the road， with whom the youth changed clothes， and in this way he got to the kings palace. No one knew him， but the bird began to sing， the horse began to eat， and the beautiful maiden left off weeping. The king， astonished， asked， “What does this mean？” Then the maiden said， “I do not know， but I have been so sorrowful and now I am so happy. I feel as if my true bridegroombridegroom n.新郎 had come.” She told him all that had happened， although the other brothers had threatened her with death if she were to betray anything. The king commanded that all people who were in his castle should be brought before him， and amongst them came the youth in his ragged clothes， but the maiden knew him at once and fell upon his neck. The wicked brothers were seized and put to death， but he was married to the beautiful maiden and declared heir to the king.
小兄弟呢，并没有死。井幸亏是枯的，他摔在软软的苔藓上，没有受伤，只是爬不出来了。即使在眼前的困境里，忠心的狐狸仍旧没抛弃他，又跳下井来骂他不该忘记它的忠告，然后说：“我啊没法子看着不管，愿意帮你重见天日。”它叫小王子抓紧它的尾巴，然后把他拽了上来。“你现在还没脱离所有危险，”狐狸对他说，“你的两个哥哥不能确定你已经死了，派兵把森林包围了起来，只要你一露面，他们就会杀掉你。”这当儿，正巧路旁坐着个穷汉，小伙子和他调换了衣服，改装回到了王宫中。谁也没认出他，只是小鸟又开始鸣叫，金马又吃起草来，美丽的少女也停止了哭泣。国王感到奇怪，问：“这是怎么回事？”公主回答：“我也不知道。我只是刚才挺难过，现在却很高兴。我仿佛觉得，我真正的未婚夫已经到来。”接着，她向国王讲了途中发生的所有事情，尽管两个大王子曾经威胁她，只要走漏一点风声就把她杀死。国王下令召来宫里所有的人，小王子也穿得破破烂烂地混在人群中，可是公主一眼认出了他，扑到了他的怀中。两个没心肝儿的哥哥被逮起来处死了，他呢和美丽的公主成了亲，做了国王的继承人。
But what happened to the poor fox. Long afterwards the kings son was once again walking in the wood， when the fox met him and said， “You have everything now that you can wish for， but there is never an end to my miserymisery n.痛苦， 苦恼， 悲惨， 不幸， 穷困， and yet it is in your power to free me.” And again he asked him with tears to shoot him dead and chop off his head and feet. So he did it， and scarcely was it done when the fox was changed into a man， and was no other than the brother of the beautiful princess， who at last was freed from the magic charm which had been laid upon him. And now they had all the happiness they wanted as long as they lived.
可那只可怜的狐狸怎样了呢？很久很久以后，小王子有一天又走进森林，那只狐狸突然跑来对他讲：“你现在有了所希望得到的一切啦，而我呢，不幸却没个头。可只有你有能力解救我。”于是又一次哭着恳求王子开枪打死它，把它的脑袋和脚爪子砍掉。王子照办了，哪知狐狸马上变成一个人，而且不是别人，正是美丽的公主的哥哥；罩在他身上的魔法终于被解除！从此，他们生活得幸福而美满。
