At that time, a cold-blooded person named Alooke appeared in the mountainous city of Naryn. He was a merciless scoundrel on whom so many common people pronounced a curse for his foul reputation as a devil slaughtering without even blinking an eyelid. He ruled a vast area, involving the territories occupied by Kara Khitan and Qalmaq tribes. After the death
1. “Kara” originally means “black.” “Khitan” (also known as Kitay) refers to “qi dan (契丹) ” in Chinese phonetic alphabet. Kyrgyz people used different colors to refer to different dirctions. For example, the color of black refers to the North. Kara Khitan means “Khitan people living in the north.”
2. It was the name of a Mongolian tribe. It was also widely called as “Kara Kalmyk,” which means “the people staying where they were before.” It was called as “Oyrat” in ancient Chinese historical records.

of King Orozdu, Alooke proclaimed in an arrogant way that no one dared to challenge him and no one was qualified to become a heroic king like himself. What was worse, he started to invade the river basin of the Yenisei, looting the belongings of Kyrgyz people without restraint. Ten sons of King Orozdu were evicted out of their hometown and such an unprecedented disaster fell down.
Kyrgyz people turned into the slaves of Qalmaq tribesmen overnight. King Orozdu’s sons were not so indomitable as their father. In the face of the unexpected catastrophe, they chose to flee away and live in exile instead of fighting back with a common hatred against the invaders.
Jakip, the eldest son of King Orozdu, was presented to Qalmaq people’s rich king – Noroi – as a gift by Alooke. In order to ensure the security of his life, Jakip pretended to get along well with Qalmaq nomads by means of bribing them with offers of such costly presents as fine steeds and embroidered silken robes. A lot of flattery and valuables enabled Jakip to win the favor of Noroi who was unstinting in his praises for Jakip’s obedience. Thus, local Kyrgyz and Qalmaq people made Jakip their king without any hesitation. The title “Noroi people” was conferred on Jakip.
Meanwhile, another two sons Junmurgirchi and Balta even felt too sad to look back on the humiliation inflicted on themselves. With great familiarity with the augury book entitled Estirrap,(1) they were often preoccupied with reading the red book word by word. On one day, the following sentence read as follows:
“Manas is set to be born among Kyrgyz people!”
The book pointed out the prophesy in such a way:
“He will not only drive Qalmaq clans out of our home,
But also govern the area of Khangai (2).
He will be the leader of people from different places.
Even the heroes with superb martial arts,
Those Khitan clans living afar,
As well as the people staying on nearby lands,

2. The name of a place near the present-day Kangayn Mountains. It also refers to name of the tribe in this book.

Will take the oath of allegiance to his rule.”
They were not only taken aback but also excited by such a prophesy.
Almost at the same time, Qalmaq people’s fortuneteller Erangkudook got the same prophesy as well by dint of the augury book entitled Kura.He informed Alooke at once that the upcoming birthday of an unrivaled Kyrgyz hero could be counted on one’s fingers. “He is bound to make your and your son’s accomplishments fall flat. And his awe-inspiring reputation will spread far and wide someday for sure. Even Khitan people would submit themselves to the rule of him, let alone those Qalmaq clans,” he said.
Alooke got extremely frightened on hearing such remarks. He reported to King Chingirshi right away. Amazed by the ominous prediction, King Chingirshi sent for two fortunetellers Erangkudook and Jungir. He asked them to practice divination with stones at once.
“Your Majesty, our respectable King Chingirshi,
Just listen to the words coming from the depth of our hearts:
In the middle of Kyrgyz tribes living to the southwest,
A powerful enemy will be born in the future,
He is about to fight us tooth and nail.
An unknown woman is going to bear him,
Our blood will flow like a river underneath his feet.”
Shortly after hearing these words, King Chingirshi asked Alooke to set off on his trip instantly to slaughter all Kyrgyz pregnant women. Actually, Alooke was ready to receive such evil instructions at any time. Alooke sent his subordinates searching for Kyrgyz pregnant women narrowly from home to home. He ordered his subordinates to put all pregnant women together, forbidding their missing out even a single individual. Naturally, thousands of pregnant women were killed in this way.
The famed and widely respected Kyrgyz elders led robust camels carrying a great number of treasures into the yurt of King Chingirshi, asking the evil despot to release their family members or relatives. They presented the jewels and silk to the king while shedding tears. Having witnessed all these valuables, King Chingirshi promised to set free these pregnant women. However, he still ordered to interrogate and examine the prisoners thoroughly with a view

to spotting the pregnant woman who would give birth to the would-be hero. While sending his followers fetching a copy of Kura,he had been setting his two fortunetellers off disclosing the details all along. “Who on earth will give birth to the hero?” he asked.
At the sight of the furious face of King Chingirshi, the two fortunetellers got scared extremely. Neither one had sufficient courage to make any remark. Later, Erangkudook had no choice but to disclose the secret:
“It is true that a hero will be born,
But there is difficulty in figuring out
Who will give birth to him.
