Numerous Warriors Die in Battlefield and Manas Khan Passes Away
In the face of the great pressure exerted by the Kyrgyz people’s powerful army, Esen Khan was forced to climb down finally. He offered to make peace with Kyrgyz people ostensibly. However, he sent a total of five peace emissaries to the grand army of Manas in succession with a view to putting forward his requirement. In terms of his requirement for the purpose of negotiating peace, Almambet should not get in on the act as an interpreter when both sides began to negotiate over peace with each other.
In the wake of consultation, Bakai was made chief negotiator. Meanwhile Agibai was chosen to be the interpreter because he could speak Khitan lauguange fluently. Prior to their departure, the Khitan prince advised the chief negotiator to start to talk first. “Asking for Konurbai and the magical steed called Alekara is our first imperative. Even if we haven’t got a chance to catch Konurbai,we can still make a lot of troubles for the enemies. I will take part in the peace talk with other Khitan noblemen for the purpose of returning home as and when Konurbai is under arrest,” the Khitan prince emphasized.
However, reality did not accord with hopes. Due to the long and arduous journey, Bakai contracted trachitis unfortunately shortly before the peace talk kicked off. The old negotiator kept coughing and could not say even a word!

On the contrary, Esen Khan had succeeded in grabbed at the chance to put forward his requirement above all. “My respectable Bakai Khan, I know for sure that you will certainly satisfy my two demands. What I need is Konurbai and the magical horse. The throne and all the gorgeous women in the capital will belong to you from now on. All the people right here will be under your control as well as from today. Now, I have nothing left to ask for,” Esen Khan said.
It appeared that what Esen Khan wished for was nothing but two lives. Bakai could not find any reason to turn down the demands. “As of today, you will ascend the throne and become the city’s new ruler. Good luck to you! See you!” Esen Khan mounted his horse and rode away shortly after finishing saying such remarks.
Bakai told other warriors about what was going on at the peace talk after fetching home. He was quite excited. On the flip side, Almambet felt frustrated after knowing the result of the peace talk. He felt certain that Bakai was pitching a story about the so-called victory. In a deep trance, the Khitan prince with a pinched look sat quietly for a while. Afterwards, he kept sighing and patting his forehead with his hands. He knew for sure that the chief negotiator had been fooled by the enenmy. As the de facto mastermind of the expedition, the Khitan prince realized for the first time that his foresight could not tip the balance in favor of discarding the negative impact of such deadly consequences any more. He had to come down to earth finally.
The two Khitan beauties Beermiskal and Buruulichia married Almambet and Chubak respectively. As early as over forty years ago, Beermiskal had fallen in love with Almambet. With the lapse of time, her countenance had changed a bit. To her surprise, she would reunite with her lover after so many years. As a matter of fact, she was quite happy with such a much-awaited reunion. After three months, the two beauties became pregnant respectively. It was good news for both warriors because they had had no offspring. They asked a person named Hsuehtoo to send the two pregnant women back to their homeplace. Before getting to their destination, the two pregnant women could feel the regular uterine contraction and were about to give brith to their babies. With the help of princess Kanikei, Beermiskal gave birth to a boy finally. As soon as the princess held the newborn in her arms, her breasts began to swell all of a sudden. Shortly after that, the pure milk spurted out in great deal from the nipples. The princess fed the newborn

with her own milk, saying: “He is the son of Almambet and mine. He and my son Semetei will be the blood brothers sharing the same person’s milk. He will be a close friend of my son.” Unfortunately, Beermiskal died of dystocia after flashing the newborn a glance. Kanikei named the newborn Goolistan. (1). Other people called him Kulchoro later on.
Shortly after the death of Beermiskal, Buruulichia also died of dystocia immediately after giving birth to a boy. As soon as the princess held the boy in her arms, her left breast felt a pang all of a sudden. She set the nipple into the mouth of the newborn in a gentle way and the boy sucked the nipple vigorously. To her dismay, a stream of blood was seen squirting out of her left nipple. A sudden thought of killing the ominous newborn almost frustrated her completely. “If I kill him, Chubak is certain to complain to me. He will likely be a companion of Semetei. But only Allah will know what will happen to him later on,” she said to herself. As a result, she named the infant Kenkeildi(2). Others called him Kenchoro later on.
After handling all the matters with the two deceased women, Kanikei asked Hsuehtoo to send a letter back to Manas. In addition to recapitulating the birth of the two infants, the princess recounted what she thought in the letter.
The contents were as follows:
“Manas Khan, just listen to me please.
Can Beijing be on a par with Talas?
I advise you not to be intoxicated with the landscape of other places.
You will be in your element if only you live together with Kyrgyz people.
Oh, my great lion, please be on the alert against various traps set by Konurbai.
If you are reckless in handling the military operations,
You might, I am afraid, burn your own fingers in lauching the attack this time.
I suggest that you come back as soon as possible.
You’d better return home in six months.
1: Goolistan, a Kyrgyz word, means beautiful gardens.
