The University of Helsinki (Finnish： Helsingin yliopisto ， abbreviated UH) is a university located in Helsinki， Finland since 1829， but was founded in the city of Turku in 1640 as The Royal Academy of Turku， at that time part of the Swedish Empire. It is the oldest and largest university in Finland with the widest range of disciplines available.The university is bilingual， with teaching provided both in Finnish and Swedish. Teaching in English is extensive throughout the university at Master， Licentiate， and Doctoral levels. The University of Helsinki is the most versatile institution for science， education and intellectual renewal in Finland. It is active on four campuses in Helsinki. The University is one of the leading European research universities and among the best multidisciplinary research universities in the world. Research at the University of Helsinki is high-quality， profiled and of high international standard in all fields， and it is developed with a long term approach. As a member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU)， the university strives to promote the status of fundamental research. Special emphasis is given to new multidisciplinary approaches to global chanllenges. Teaching and postgraduate studies are based on research which guarantees the high standard of education.
System： The university is divided into eleven faculties including Faculty of Theology， Faculty of Law， Faculty of Medicine， Faculty of Arts， Faculty of Science， Faculty of Pharmacy， Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences， Faculty of Behavioral Sciences， Faculty of So-cial Sciences， Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry， Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.The university is located on four main campuses including City Centre Campus (which is home to the Departments of Theology， Law， Arts， Education and Social Sciences)， Kumpula science Campus ( which houses the Departments of Physics， Chemistry， Mathematics and Statistics， Computer Science， Geology and Geography of the Faculty of Science)， Meilahti Campus (which is a functional unity of medicine and health care and the center of internation of top research on medicine)， Viikki Campus(which is a remarkable centre of biosciences at the Euro-pean level.).
