The University of Warwick (informally known as Warwick University or Warwick) is a public research university located in Coventry， United Kingdom. It was founded in 1965 as part of a government initiative to expand access to higher education. Warwick is a unique， and uniquely successful， institution. Despite its relative youth—it was founded in the mid-1960s—it is now one of the UK’s leading universities， with an acknowledged reputation for excellence in research and teaching， for innovation and for links with business and industry. Warwick is heavily targeted by employers and graduates are in great demand despite the university"s youth.Warwick has its own science park and has been building numbers in science and engineering. Other courses such as English， history and law are also rated very highly. The arts centre attracts big name shows and comedians. The Warwick Arts Centre is a multi-venue arts complex situated at the centre of Warwick"s main campus. The university"s main site comprises three contiguous campuses， all within walking distance of each other. The original buildings of the campus are in contemporary 1960s architecture， a style chosen in deliberate contrast to the medieval， classical， or "red brick" character of older British universities. Prime minister Tony Blair has said："Warwick is a beacon among British universities for its dynamism， quality and entrepreneurial zeal."
System： Warwick is organized into four faculties—Arts， Medicine， Science and Social Sciences—within which there are 32 departments. Warwick"s academic activities are organised into the following faculties and departments： Faculty of Arts（Classics and Ancient History， Comparative American Studies， English and Comparative Literary Studies， Film and Television Studies， French Studies， German Studies， History， History of Art， Italian， Theatre Studies）； Faculty of Medicine（Warwick Medical School， Education and Development Unit）； Faculty of Science（Chemistry， Computer Science， Engineering， Life Sciences， Mathematics， Physics， Psychology， Statistics， WMG）； Faculty of Social Sciences（Applied Linguistics， Economics， Education， Health and Social Studies， Law， Philosophy， Politics and International Studies， Sociology， Warwick Business School， Women and Gender， Research Centre in Psychology）. Note： The Warwick Manufacturing Group（WMG）is one of the biggest departments in the University. It has 5 buildings for teaching and scientific researching， and disposes the global leading experiment and the teaching equipment. The entire faculty altogether has more than 400 teachers and professors， also is the biggest faculty in the entire UK based faculties.

考文垂地处英格兰中心，曾以纺织业驰名。18世纪以钟表业著称。19世纪出现汽车等重工业。1896年，英国第一辆戴姆勒汽车在此诞生。20世纪初期发展人造纤维、电子和军火工业。建有英国诗人丁尼生的两座纪念塔和三一教堂、八角形高塔等。
