Mounting Phoenix Terrace at Jinling
Mounting Phoenix Terrace at Jinling
Li Bai
Once phoenixes used to perch on the Phoenix Terrace
Now they are gone but the river round it still rolls along.
Here, ’neath paths are buried flowers and grass of Wu’s palace
And lying in graves are Jin’s ancient lords in gowns long.
The mountain with three peaks lies half lost beyond the sky;
By the Egret Isle a stream is parted into two.
As the floating clouds have shaded the sun from the eye
My failure to see the Chang’an City how I rue!
