野天鹅
这个故事发表于１８３８年，情节非常动人，来源于丹麦的一个民间故事，但安徒生却加进了新的主题思想，即善与恶的斗争，主要人物是伊莱扎。伊莱扎是个柔弱的女子，但她要以她的决心和毅力来战胜比她强大得多、有权有势的王后和主教，救出被王后的魔法变成了天鹅的那１１位哥哥。她忍受荨麻的刺痛、环境的恶劣和有权势的主教对她的诬陷，争取织成那１１件长袖披甲，使她的哥哥们恢复人形。她承受了肉体上的折磨，但精神上的压力却更难当：“她的嘴是不说话的，因为她说出一个字就可以使她的哥哥们丧失生命。”正因为如此，她只好忍受人们把她当作巫婆和把她烧死的惩罚，而不能辩护，虽然她“知道自己是无罪的。”她的善良甚至感动了小耗子，它们帮助她收集荨麻；画眉鸟也“栖在窗子的铁栏杆上，整夜对她唱出最好听的歌，使她不要失掉勇气。”她坐上囚车，穿上丧服，“死亡的路途上也不中断她已经开始了的工作。”在最后一分钟她的工作终于接近完成，她的１１个哥哥也及时到来。他们穿上她织好的披甲，恢复了人形。这时她可以讲话了。她说出了真情，取得了群众的理解，同时也击败了有权有势的人对她的诽谤，最后她赢得了幸福。她终于成了胜利者。
FAR away in the land to which the swallows fly when it is winter，dwelt a king who had eleven sons，and one daughter，named Eliza.The eleven brothers were princes，and each went to school with a star on his breast，and a sword by his side.They wrote with diamond pencils on gold slates(slate n.板岩，石板，石片，蓝色adj.暗蓝灰色的，含板岩的v.铺石板)，and learnt their lessons so quickly and read so easily that every one might know they were princes.Their sister Eliza sat on a little stool of plateglass，and had a book full of pictures，which had cost as much as half a kingdom.

Oh，these children were indeed happy，but it was not to remain so always.Their father，who was king of the country，married a very wicked queen，who did not love the poor children at all.They knew this from the very first day after the wedding.In the palace there were great festivities(festivity n.欢宴，欢庆)，and the children played at receiving company，but instead of having，as usual，all the cakes and apples that were left，she gave them some sand in a teacup，and told them to pretend it was cake.The week after，she sent little Eliza into the country to a peasant and his wife，and then she told the king so many untrue things about the young princes，that he gave himself no more trouble respecting them.

“Go out into the world and get your own living.”said the queen.“Fly like great birds，who have no voice.”But she could not make them ugly as she wished，for they were turned into eleven beautiful wild swans.Then，with a strange cry，they flew through the windows of the palace，over the park，to the forest beyond.It was early morning when they passed the peasants cottagecottage n.村舍，小别墅，where their sister Eliza lay asleep in her room.They hovered over the roof，twisted their long necks and flapped their wings，but no one heard them or saw them，so they were at last obliged to fly away，high up in the clouds，and over the wide world they flew till they came to a thick，dark wood，which stretched far away to the seashore.
“你们飞到野外去吧。你们自己去谋生吧。”恶毒的王后说。“你们像那些没有声音的巨鸟一样飞走吧。”可是她想做的坏事情并没有完全实现。他们变成了十一只美丽的野天鹅。他们发出了一阵奇异的叫声，便从宫殿的窗子飞出去了，远远地飞过公园，飞向森林里去了。他们的妹妹还没有起来，正睡在农人的屋子里面。当他们在这儿经过的时候，天还没有亮多久。他们在屋顶上盘旋着，把长脖颈一下掉向这边，一下掉向那边，同时拍着翅膀。可是谁也没有听到或看到他们。他们得继续向前飞，高高地飞进云层，远远地飞向茫茫的世界。他们一直飞延伸到海岸的一个大黑森林里去。
Poor little Eliza was alone in her room playing with a green leaf，for she had no other playthings，and she pierced a hole through the leaf，and looked through it at the sun，and it was as if she saw her brothersclear eyes，and when the warm sun shone on her cheeks，she thought of all the kisses they had given her.
可怜的小伊莱扎待在农人的屋子里，拨弄着一片绿叶，因为她没有别的玩具。她在叶子上穿了一个小洞，通过这个小洞她可以朝着太阳望，这时她似乎看到了她许多哥哥的明亮的眼睛。每当太阳照在她脸上的时候，她就想起哥哥们给她的吻。
One day passed just like another.Sometimes the winds rustled through the leaves of the rosebush，and would whisper to the roses，“Who can be more beautiful than you！”But the roses would shake their heads，and say，“Eliza is.”And when the old woman sat at the cottage door on Sunday，and read her hymnbook，the wind would flutter the leaves，and say to the book，“Who can be more piouspious adj.虔诚的，尽责的than you？”and then the hymnbook would answer“Eliza”.And the roses and the hymnbook told the real truth.
日子一天接着一天地过去了。风儿吹过屋外玫瑰花组成的篱笆；它对这些玫瑰花儿低声说：“还有谁比你们更美丽呢？”可是玫瑰花儿摇摇头，回答说：“还有伊莱扎！”星期天，当老农妇在门里坐着、正在读《圣诗集》的时候，风儿就吹起书页，对这书说：“还有谁比你更好呢？”《圣诗集》就说：“还有伊莱扎！”玫瑰花和《圣诗集》所说的话都是纯粹的真理。
At fifteen she returned home，but when the queen saw how beautiful she was，she became full of spite and hatred towards her.Willingly would she have turned her into a swan，like her brothers，but she did not dare to do so yet，because the king wished to see his daughter.
当她到了十五岁的时候，她得回家去。王后一眼看到她是那样美丽，心中不禁恼怒起来，充满了憎恨。她倒很想把她变成一只野天鹅，像她的哥哥们一样，但是她还不敢马上这样做，因为国王想要看看自己的女儿。
Early one morning the queen went into the bathroom.It was built of marble，and had soft cushions(cushion n.垫子，软垫，衬垫v.加衬垫)，trimmed with the most beautiful tapestry(tapestry n.织锦，挂毯vt.编织锦或织画，用挂毯装饰).She took three toads with her，and kissed them，and said to one，“When Eliza comes to the bath，seat yourself upon her head，that she may become as stupid as you are.”Then she said to another，“Place yourself on her forehead，that she may become as ugly as you are，and that her father may not know her.”“Rest on her heart，”she whispered to the third，“then she will have evil inclinations(inclination n.倾斜，弯曲，倾度，倾向，爱好)，and suffer in consequence.”
一天大清早，王后走到浴室里去。浴室是用白大理石砌的，里面陈设着柔软的坐垫和最华丽的地毡。她拿起三只癞蛤蟆，把每只都吻了一下，于是对第一只说：“当伊莱扎走进浴池的时候，你就坐在她的头上，好使她变得像你一样呆笨。”她对第二只说：“请你坐在她的前额上，好使她变得像你一样丑恶，叫她的父亲认识她不出来。”她对第三只低声地说：“请你躺在她的心上，好使她有一颗罪恶的心，叫她因此而感到痛苦。”
