阿尔弗雷德·丁尼生（Alfred Tennyson， 1809—1892年），19世纪英国最受欢迎的诗人，被称为“桂冠诗人”。丁尼生致力于提高诗歌的艺术，继承并发扬了英国诗歌的传统，追求严谨的格律，讲究声韵之美。其主要作品有：长诗《纪念》和《国王的田园诗》，短诗《拍岸曲》和《渡过沙洲》等。

这是一首触景生情的诗。诗人看到浪花拍岸，大海的冲击，内心泛起无限的遐思。眼前的景象令诗人惆怅感慨万千，不禁回忆起昔日友人的抚摸和温馨的关怀，但是这一切无法追回，永不复返，无限感伤随浪而来，随浪而去，潸然泪下。
