Several months passed. Then one night Eluo’s daughter, Namo, had a dream that was too strange to explain. So she went to the Dragon Palace and asked the Lion King to interpret her dream. She presented Gesar with a colourful hada scarf and said:
“Last night I dreamed that a golden bird flew around the Dragon Palace. The sun and moon were raised by the bird’s eyes. The earth shook seriously when a sandalwood tree on a cliff was blown down. The golden bird was burned and its light radiated in the four directions. One beam of the light was cast over Vajra Hell. There was a tea house behind the light. A white conch bird stood on the vine which snaked along the top of the tea house. The white bird circled around the State of Ling and then flew up to Heaven.”
Gesar told people around him that this was an advance indication to the State of Ling instead of a dream. When asked to explain it clearly, Gesar went on to say:
“The golden bird is my Buddhist Guardian. The sun and moon raised by the bird’s eyes indicate great prosperity. However, that the sandalwood tree was blown down predicts that Uncle Roncha Chageng would encounter a disaster. The conch bird on the vine stands for Sengcham Cholmo. The white bird circling the State of Ling symbolizes that Cholmo is reluctant to leave Ling. That the white bird flew to Heaven stands for Cholmo reincarnated in Heaven.”
All present on the occasion were in a panic after Gesar’s explanation.
Shortly after the Lion King’s interpretation, Rongcha Chageng sent a servant to report to Gesar:
“On the top of Zanlenglashan Mountain the hawk’s feathers were blown. If the feathers fall down flat, we shall ask the golden bird for its blessing.”
Gesar knew Rongcha Chageng would leave the world soon. He immediately went to see him. The old man, surrounded by many heroes, said to Gesar:
“On the eighth day of this month, I will go to Heaven. Before departing I have a few words for the people of Ling.”
“You needn’t be sad at my death because that is only a magical change and not really death. After I die, the people of Ling shall work together in full cooperation and with a unity of purpose both for internal and external affairs. When enemies invade Ling, you should work hard to defeat them. When small states come to Ling for shelter, you should treat them with sincerity. You must remain intelligent regardless of your happiness or difficulties.”
On the eighth day, Gesar ordered his men to post offerings before dawn. When the sun shone on the mountain top, several rainbows appeared in the sky and raptors circled the city. In addition, fragrant petals fell down. Namo Yozin, daughter of Rongcha Chageng, went to her father and sang a song in order to wish him bon voyage to Heaven:
“My dear father,
the petal rain is falling and the rainbows are surrounding the city.
If you go to Heaven I will feel happy.
You leave the reincarnation of the world.
I really would like to follow you.”
At this moment, many rainbows appeared in the southwest. A unicorn stood on the rainbow with white fur, a blue mane and a black tail. Its horn was as transparent as turquoise. It gave off the colours of the rainbow. This unicorn stayed on the rainbow for a second and then disappeared. At the same time, the body of Rongcha Chageng disappeared too. Only his clothes, hair and nails were left behind.
The Lion King, Prince Zhalha and the others gasped when they saw that Rongcha Chageng turned into rainbow. The Lion King then appointed Namo Yozin to inherit her father’s position as the new head chieftain of Ling.
